Snow Removal Resources for Community Organizations

NYC Service provides resources and tools to community-based organizations (CBOs) interested in recruiting volunteers to assist their neighbors with snow removal. Visit nyc.gov/service to access these resources and tools for CBOs.

The City does not provide direct assistance to residents in need of snow shoveling assistance.

Homeowners are responsible for the removal of snow from the sidewalks in front, on the side, and in back of their properties.

The City does not clear access to automobiles, sidewalks, or driveways, even if the obstruction was caused by a City plow.

Snow is always plowed to the right side of the street because the same trucks must plow both one-way and two-way streets. Once the plows are mounted on trucks they cannot be shifted from one direction to the other.
