You can report illegal postings on:

  • Public property
  • Private building exteriors that are visible from the street
  • City-owned grassy areas adjacent to a street

Illegal postings include:

  • Decals
  • Flyers
  • Posters
  • Stickers

Please note that property owners may give permission for postings to be put on their property.

What You Can’t Report

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) doesn’t take complaints about:

  • Illegal postings on scaffolding, wood or metal construction fencing, sheds, or barricades
  • Flyers, handbills, posters, or signs attached to private buildings
  • Posters or flyers that are:
    • Put up by government agencies or Community Boards
    • Announcing street closures or no parking for filming

What You Need

Your complaint must include:

  • The name, address, and phone number on the poster or sticker
  • The exact location of the poster or sticker

What Happens Next

If the illegal postings are on public or City-owned property and are accessible, DSNY will remove them. If the agency can identify and find who is responsible, they may give them a violation.

DSNY will not remove stickers from private property – removal is the sole responsibility of the property owner or manager.
