You can get information about municipal parking facilities, including locations.

The City provides public parking in lots and garages in the central business districts of all five boroughs. Fees apply for parking.

After parking is paid, Muni-Meters will issue a receipt indicating the time purchased to park at that meter location. This receipt may be used to park at another Muni-Meter location elsewhere in the City.

In Pay-N-Display facilities, motorists must display the receipt on their vehicle's dashboard, so that enforcement officers may easily read the parking expiration time through the front window. Motorcycle owners choosing to park at these Muni-Meters are responsible for finding a way to comply with the Pay-N-Display requirement posted on the Muni-Meter.

In Pay-N-Retain facilities, officers retrieve data directly from the machines. Drivers should retain their receipt as proof of payment, as well as a reminder of when to return to their car. If you lose your receipt, you cannot get another copy of it.

You can park in front of parking meters for free on Sundays and on the following major legal holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If you try to pay for parking during these times, your payment will be rejected. The meter will display a "Meter Off, Read Posted Signs" message.

You may not park in an unsecured lot overnight.

If you park after hours in an unsecured lot, you may get a ticket and your vehicle may be at risk of theft.
