You can donate new or gently used coats directly to community partners.

Use the online Coat Drive Map to find partners near you accepting donations, the kinds of coats they need, and contact information.

Before donating used coats, you must follow these guidelines:

• Wash coats in soap and water or dry clean at the highest temperature possible without damaging the coat
• Store coats in a dark plastic bag or box to reduce contact
• Call ahead before visiting a location

If you are in need of a coat, you should first contact community partners who are receiving new coats directly from New York Cares. No ID or vouchers are required.

These locations have committed to giving out coats to anyone who walks in, though you should call ahead to make sure they have the size and type of coat you need.
