Through the New Family Home Visits (NFHV) program, the Health Department and its partners provide support and assistance to new and expectant parents who live in select New York City neighborhoods, public housing, or who are engaged with child welfare. These families may be eligible for home visiting by a qualified professional, as well as many other helpful services to support and strengthen families.
NFHV is a program in which a trained health worker makes in-person visits to the home of an expectant or new parent who has recently given birth. The program is voluntary and free to all families regardless of immigration status or income.
Families can get help with:
- Breastfeeding
- Creating a safe home for their new baby
- Safe sleep education
- Accessing health and social services
- Accessing a nurse or doula
- A Doula is a person who provides support and guidance before, during and after birth
- Obtaining essential items for the baby such as a crib or diapers
Eligibility
Eligible families include:
- First-time parents residing in Taskforce, Racial, Inclusion and Equity (TRIE) neighborhoods
- All families with an infant 0 to 3 months old residing in NYCHA public housing in TRIE neighborhoods
- All families with an infant 0 to 3 months old engaged with ACS citywide
Currently, eligible NYCHA families and families who are engaged with ACS can enroll in New Family Home Visits. The program will be phased in the 33 TRIE neighborhoods, starting with the following 11:
- Bedford Stuyvesant
- Brownsville
- Bushwick
- Central Harlem
- Concourse/Highbridge
- East Harlem
- East Tremont
- Hunts Point
- Morrisania
- Mott Haven
- University Heights/Morris Heights
The remaining 22 neighborhoods will be added over the next 3 months.
